Q1 Is the library open today? What time do you close?

A  Please check the Library calendar. You can also check on the information board.

 

Q2 I am not registered at your college. Can I use your library?

A  You need a letter of introduction from the library of another college, other similar research institutions, or a national, public or private library. You can use items only on the current day.
TCM Library does not accept inquiries from individual users.
For more detailed information, please refer to the User’s guide, Visitors from outside the college (Japanese only).

 

Q3 I forgot to bring my student ID card. Can I use the Library?

A  You can browse open items on the 1st and 3rd floors, newspapers, and periodicals. You cannot borrow items, view in the AV room, or use the coin copy machine.

 

Q4 Can I enter the closed stacks?

A  Only faculty members and graduate students are allowed to enter the closed stacks (hours 9:00-16:30). Please ask the library staff for assistance.

The use of items

Q5 I would like you to check if the library has what I need.

A  Please check it on the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog). If you need some help, please ask at the Information & Reference Desk.
Visitors need to consult their own affiliated library or a public library.
Please refrain from inquiring by phone.

 

Q6 Can I borrow items from the library by mail or courier service?

A  We do not offer any postal service. Please visit in person.

 

Q7 Can I return borrowed items by mail or courier service?

A  If it is impossible for you to return items in person, sending by mail or courier service is accepted. Please send the items by packing very carefully, so as not to damage them in transit. In case of CDs, please mark them as fragile items.

 

Q8 Can I renew the loan period of the items I am currently borrowing? Can I do this over the phone?

A  Loan periods can be renewed just once by logging in to "MyLibrary". However, in case that a book is placed a hold by other users, loan periods cannot be extended. Please return the book by the due date.
You cannot renew loan periods over the phone.

 

Q9 Can I check out videos, DVDs or Blu-ray discs, etc.?

A  No, you cannot. They can only be used in the AV room.

Copying

Q10 Can I copy music scores?

A  We don't allow copying of music scores in the library.

 

Q11 Can I duplicate a CD?

A  Not Allowed.

 

Q12 Could you send the copied items to my home?

A  No, we cannot.

Visiting other libraries (TCM members only)

Q13 I would like to visit the library of other universities.

A  If the items you want are not available at TCM Library, you can visit other libraries. Please consult the Information & Reference Desk during 9:00–17:00 on weekdays. You need a letter of introduction to visit the library of other universities.

 

Q14 I would like to borrow items held by other universities.

A  If the items which you want are not in possession of the library, you can borrow them from other libraries.
You need to pay the delivery fee both ways. The items from other libraries are generally only to be browsed within the library. You need to request through “MyLibrary” or fill out the request form, and submit it to the Information & Reference Desk.

 

Q15 I would like to receive copies of books or periodicals that are held by other universities.

A  If the books and periodicals which you want are not in possession of the library, you may receive photocopies from other libraries.
You need to pay the copy charge and the postage fee. The copying is allowed according to the copyright law. You need to make a request through “MyLibrary” or fill out the request form, and submit to the Information & Reference Desk.

Others

Q16 Can I eat or drink in the library?

A  No. please refrain from eating or drinking. Keep any food or drink in your bag. We appreciate your cooperation.

 

Q17 Can I use my mobile phone?

A  Turn off your mobile phone or switch it to the manner mode in the library. Please refrain from talking or using the camera in the reading room and the AV room.
You cannot take photos of the items by camera and other devices. Please use the copy service if copies are required.

 

Q18 Can I use my own PC in the library?

A  You can use it in the lobby on the 1st floor and in the reading room on the 3rd floor. Please do not use it in the AV room on the 2nd floor.

 

Q19 Is there a smoking area in the library?

A  No. Smoking is prohibited in the whole building. Please only smoke in the designated locations on the campus.
